What Mimir stores in your browser, and what you can switch off.

Mimir sets two essential cookies: one keeps you signed in, the other remembers your answer to the cookie banner. On top of those, Google Analytics runs on every page — but until you accept analytics it stays in a cookieless mode that sets nothing in your browser. We run no advertising pixel, and none of this builds a profile of you across other sites.

What we set

Session cookieStrictly necessary

Keeps you signed in between page loads. Without it there is no account, only an anonymous reader.

Remembers the choice you made about the other two categories, so you are not asked on every visit.

_gaAnalytics · after consent

Google Analytics: tells one browser apart from another so visits are not double-counted. Set only after you accept the analytics category, and given a two-year life by Google.

_ga_<id>Analytics · after consent

Google Analytics: holds the state of your current session for our measurement id. Also set only once you accept analytics, also two years by Google default.

The first two are strictly necessary, which is why there is no switch for them. Turning off the session cookie would log you out permanently; turning off the consent cookie would mean asking you the same question on every page. The two Google Analytics cookies are the opposite — they are set only if you turn the analytics category on, and turning it back off stops them.

Your choices

The banner offers two optional categories. Both are off until you turn them on, and closing the banner without choosing leaves them off — silence is not agreement.

Analytics — aggregate measurement of how the site is used. Google Analytics loads on every page either way; leaving this off keeps it in a cookieless mode that stores nothing, and turning it on lets it set the two _ga cookies above and measure your visit normally.
Advertising — lets us show you ads for Mimir elsewhere and see whether they worked. This one involves sharing an identifier with an advertising platform, which is described in the privacy policy.

Rejecting both changes nothing about how Mimir works for you. There is no reduced experience, no nag, and no feature behind the banner.

Third parties

Google. Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, loads on every page — for everyone, signed in or not, before and without any cookie choice. On each page load it sends Google your IP address, the page address, your browser’s user agent, and a timestamp. Until you accept the analytics category it runs in Consent Mode’s denied state: it sets no cookies, and its pings carry no identifier tying one page view to the next. Accept analytics and it sets the _ga cookies listed above and measures your visit in the ordinary way.

That is the only third party with a tag in the page today: no Meta Pixel, no tag manager, no session recording, no social embeds that phone home. Our infrastructure, identity, and email providers help serve the site but set no tracking cookie in your browser.

If we add another tag, you will find it here by name and purpose. Some tags — like Google Analytics — load for everyone in a restricted, consent-governed mode; others will only run once you turn their category on. Either way the table above tells you which cookies get set, and when.

Changing your mind

Your answer is stored for a year, and you can change it whenever you like — the button below reopens the choice, and the home page carries the same link in its footer.

You can also clear cookies in your browser at any time. Clearing them removes your answer too, so the banner will ask again. Questions go to [email protected].
